Cost Transfers - Training Eligibility

The Salary Cost Transfer training equips Initiators and Approvers with the skills to initiate, review, and approve basic/unrestricted, over-the-cap/restricted, and work-study SCT transactions in UCPath. Combining foundational knowledge with hands-on practice, this training ensures users can confidently and accurately manage salary cost transfers while adhering to key deadlines and compliance requirements. Over time, as you become familiar with the system, you’ll begin to recognize patterns and think about how these transactions fit into the bigger picture.

Please note: you must complete the Funding Entry/Position Funding training series before the Salary Cost Transfer training series.

Eligible Groups Include:

  • Department Users
  • Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) Users

Required for:

  • Initiators submitting Salary Cost Transfer and Benefits Cost Transfers transactions.
  • Approvers approving and denying Salary Cost Transfer and Benefits Cost Transfers transactions.

Training Pre-Requisites

Completion of Intro to UCPath (Live Instructor-Led Training)

Intro to UCPath provides the foundational knowledge needed to successfully navigate UCPath and understand how transactions impact employees, departments, and downstream workflows. This course is required before completing most module-specific UCPath training.

  • This course provides an overview of UCPath, PeopleSoft, and key system modules for users performing transactions beyond self-service.
  • In this course, you will:
    • Explore UCPath's core functions, modules, and interconnected workflows.

    • Practice navigating UCPath, including inquiry pages like Person Organizational Summary, Job Data, Workforce Job Summary, and Add/Update Position Info.

    • Learn key UCPath terminology, concepts, and Berkeley-specific support resources.

    • Understand how transactions in one module can impact other areas of UCPath.

    • Build a foundation for completing module-specific training and performing transactions with confidence.

Salary Cost Transfer Live Instructor-Led Training (ILT)

  • Time required: 4 hours
  • Format: live via Zoom
  • Registration Required: sign up for the Salary Cost Transfer ILT through the UC Learning Center.
  • Required for: Salary Cost Transfer & Benefit Cost Transfer Initiators and Approvers
  • Content: A live, instructor-led session in a UCPath training environment to practice key Salary Cost Transfer transactions, such as basic/unrestricted, over-the-cap/MCOP, and Work-Study.
  • Assessment:  Class transactions submitted in the practice environment to verify skill readiness and ensure transaction accuracy. Requires an 80% or higher precision score to pass.
