Accessibility Statement for UC Berkeley UCPath Training
The Berkeley UCPath Training team is committed to making our training materials, resources, and webpages accessible to all users. We strive to ensure our digital content is usable by people with diverse abilities and compatible with assistive technologies.
Accessibility Standards
Our goal is for UCPath Training materials and webpages maintained by the Berkeley UCPath Operations team to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards, in alignment with the University of California IT Accessibility Policy and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define standards for accessibility for individuals with disabilities, with conformance levels A, AA, and AAA.
UCPath at UC Berkeley is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This means that while many features meet accessibility standards, some content may not yet fully conform.
Our Approach
We are actively reviewing and remediating training materials to improve accessibility. This includes:
-
Applying accessible document structure (headings, lists, tables, and alternative text).
-
Ensuring sufficient color contrast and readable formatting.
-
Designing training materials that support screen readers and keyboard navigation.
-
Conducting accessibility audits and remediation of eCourses and documents prior to publication whenever possible.
Because UCPath training materials include a wide range of content formats (webpages, eCourses, PDFs, Word documents, slide decks, and spreadsheets), remediation is an ongoing process. Our team is committed to continuous improvement as we update and redesign training resources.
Team Capacity
Our team is small and does not have a dedicated accessibility specialist. We are committed to accessibility and actively work to improve our materials, but due to limited capacity, updates and remediations may take time. We appreciate your patience as we continue this work.
Third-Party and External Resources
UCPath Training materials frequently link to resources maintained by other organizations within the University of California system, including:
-
UC Berkeley departments and regions and other campus partners
-
The UCPath Center (UCPC)
-
University of California Office of the President (UCOP)
These resources are maintained by their respective teams. While we collaborate closely with these partners, the Berkeley UCPath Training team does not control or maintain those materials and therefore cannot guarantee that all external resources meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
If you encounter accessibility barriers in external UC resources and cannot locate the appropriate contact information, please reach out to us and we will help connect you with the responsible team.
Similarly, if the UCPath system itself is not meeting accessibility standards, our team can support users who experience accessibility barriers while transacting in the system. We are able to file defects with UCPC and work with them to prioritize and address reported issues.
Requesting Accessible Materials or Assistance
If you need training materials in an accessible format, encounter accessibility barriers, or require assistance accessing UCPath training resources, please contact us.
-
Email: ucbucpath@berkeley.edu
-
Response time: We aim to respond within 3–5 business days.
When contacting us, please include:
-
The title or link to the resource
-
A description of the accessibility issue
If you are experiencing issues accessing or transacting in the UCPath system itself, we can work with you to understand the issue and file a system defect with the UCPath Center on your behalf.
Limitations and Alternatives
Despite our efforts, some limitations remain. We are actively working to address these. Known issues include:
Older Training Materials:
Some older resources may include screenshots without descriptive text alternatives or other inaccessible elements. These materials were created before accessibility standards were in place.
Our Commitment:
-
New training materials are developed with accessibility as a priority.
-
Older resources are being reviewed and updated on a rolling basis.
-
If you need access to a specific resource that is not fully accessible, please contact us and we will work to provide an accessible version as soon as possible.
