Updated New User Training Begins June 2026

June 3, 2026

Beginning June 2026, Berkeley UCPath Operations will begin rolling out updates to several core New User Training courses as part of the broader UCPath Training Redesign initiative.

These updates are designed to strengthen foundational knowledge, increase opportunities for hands-on practice, and better support users in understanding transaction impacts across UCPath workflows. The redesign is informed by stakeholder conversations, learner feedback, manager feedback, training evaluations, needs assessments, and focus groups conducted across campus.

What's Changing?

The following courses will transition to new training formats:

Intro to UCPath

  • eCourse → Live Instructor-Led Training (ILT)

  • Offered twice monthly

  • Required for Initiators and Approvers

Position Management

  • Live ILT → eCourse + Live Practice Session

  • Required for Initiators and Approvers

Funding Entry / Position Funding

  • eCourse → eCourse + Live Practice Session

  • Required for Initiators and Approvers

Final Pay

  • Live ILT → eCourse + Live Practice Session

  • Required for Initiators and Approvers

  • No change to current training requirements

Training websites are updated with links to the new UC Learning Center activities for users to register for upcoming July training!

New Requirement for Approvers

Historically, training requirements focused primarily on Initiators. Beginning with these updated courses, training will now be required for both Initiators and Approvers.

Through stakeholder engagement and focus group discussions, campus partners consistently emphasized the important role Approvers play in reviewing transactions, identifying common errors, understanding downstream impacts, and ensuring compliance with Berkeley business processes. These updated requirements are intended to better support Approvers in that role.

New Hybrid Training Model

For Position Management, Funding Entry / Position Funding, and Final Pay, learners must now complete both components of the training pathway:

Part 1: eCourse
Part 2: Live Practice Session

The live practice sessions provide learners with the opportunity to apply concepts in the UCPath training environment, practice common scenarios, and demonstrate proficiency through a practical assessment.

Is Retraining Required?

No. If you already have UCPath access and previously completed the required training for your role, you do not need to retake training as part of the UCPath Training Redesign.

The updated training requirements apply to new access requests moving forward. Existing users are welcome to complete the redesigned training as a refresher or to learn about updated processes and best practices.

New Resource: Berkeley UCPath New User Training Portfolio

To support these changes, Berkeley UCPath Operations has launched a new Berkeley UCPath New User Training Portfolio & Learning Guide that serves as a starting point for new learners and supervisors.

The portfolio includes:

  • Recommended training pathways

  • Course descriptions and eligibility

  • Training modalities and requirements

  • Links to individual training webpages

  • Accessibility information and support resources

As additional training redesign updates are released throughout 2026 and 2027, the Training Portfolio and individual training webpages will continue to serve as the source of truth for current requirements and resources.

Action Required

Departments and Regions should review:

  • Onboarding materials

  • Internal training guides

  • Department websites

  • Saved bookmarks and reference documents

  • Any resources that reference Berkeley UCPath training

Please update links to point directly to the individual Berkeley UCPath training webpages and Training Portfolio rather than to specific course activities or legacy training materials.

This will help ensure employees always have access to the most current training information, requirements, registration options, and resources.
